ABOUT THE ARTIST
ELSA MARITZ IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTIST WHO WORKS ON THEMES SURROUNDING TRANSIENCE,GRIEF AND VULNERABILITY.

She explores these notions through interactions and sensory experiences with nature and meditations with multi-media. For her, her art is a form of grounding, flowing, and releasing.

Elsa Maritz is a South African artist, born in KwaZulu Natal. After matriculating, her love for the arts took her on a five year journey as a performing artist. She then enrolled at the University of Stellenbosch and completed her BA Visual Arts in 2011, with a focus on relational aesthetics, social sculptures and performance art.

During this time, she delves into the complexities of the South African societal landscape and is selected to take part in a performance piece at the Spier Contemporary 2010.

Introduced to photography and videography as a medium, she then practised it for the next decade, in a commercial setting. She has since explored digital art, working with mixed media, drawing, painting and performance art.
She is currently based on a farm on the outskirts of Pretoria.
